INFERTILITY

INFERTILITY IS…
A medical condition which diminishes self-esteem, your social life, as well as your savings account. Causes sudden urges to pee on sticks, cry, scream and a fear of pregnancy announcements. Affects 1 in 10 couples. You are not alone ~ Anonymous

Forms of Assisted Reproduction Technology (ART)

AI (artificial insemination) also known as IUI (Intrauterine insemination) - placing sperm inside a woman's uterus to facilitate fertilisation. The goal of IUI is to increase the number of sperm that reach the Fallopian tubes and subsequently increase the chance of fertilisation.

IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation) - Is a method of helping a woman to have a baby in which an egg is removed from one of her ovaries, fertilised outside her body and then place back in her womb.

ICSI (Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection) - A direct injection of a single sperm into an egg obtained from IVF (outside the body fertilisation) The fertilised egg can then be transferred to the woman's uterus.

GIFT (Gamete Intra Fallopian Transfer) - This is similar to IVF, but in this procedure fertilisation happens naturally after a doctor places eggs and sperm directly inside one of the fallopian tubes.

There are so many facets to infertility; the physical aspects being one of them. For so many couples struggling with infertility, the stress and psychological trauma affects them the most.
